In my late teens my dad bought a bright yellow Citroen Dyane. My brother and I told him in no uncertain terms that we would not be seen dead in it. And even then a heavy disguise would be required.
Given the choice of car or bus I did go by car. I even stopped wearing the dark glasses, wide brimmed hat and trench coat. (I was not ready to give up the stilettos and suspenders, but I digress. )
We soon discovered that the carrying capacity of this car was immense. With the back seats removed you could get a wardrobe in. I'm not sure what the load capacity is but we once carried a large concrete coal-bunker along with coal. Performance and handling were affected and the exhaust grounded every time we hit as bump.
